Cyber Downtime Exposure Calculator

This tool estimates your cash-flow exposure during a cyber incident — specifically, potential revenue disruption during an outage and wage cost during disrupted work. Enter your own figures for a personalised estimate. Costs the calculator cannot reliably estimate are listed separately below the results.

Downtime exposure estimate

© 2026 DHD Information Security (Pty) Ltd. This tool provides a simplified downtime exposure estimate for illustrative purposes only and does not represent a complete cost-of-attack calculation. Potential revenue disruption estimates the portion of normal revenue-generating activity affected during the outage, based on your monthly revenue divided across 22 assumed business days per month. Wage cost during disruption applies your chosen staff-impact percentage to your daily wage cost. Some revenue may be delayed rather than permanently lost depending on your business model. Ransomware outage duration is an example severe ransomware recovery scenario of 24 working days, based on recovery data from Sophos State of Ransomware 2025 and Statista; actual recovery time varies widely. Data breach disruption is an example assumption of 5 working days of immediate investigation and containment. Breach identification reference: IBM Cost of a Data Breach Report 2025 — average 181 days to identify a breach across all breach types. Ransomware and recovery cost context: Sophos State of Ransomware 2025. POPIA penalty reference: Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013, section 107.
